The next generation, LG-made Nexus will reportedly feature a nano-SIM card slot. The information on the smartphone appeared on the website of the Ukrainian wireless provider Life:) (yes, the smiley is part of its name). In a small-font disclaimer, the carrier states that it will equip its iPhone 5s, 5c, and Nexus 5 users with a nano-SIM card.

Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear hit the AT&T stores on October 4

AT&T has just announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet and the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch will become available for purchase on the AT&T website and throughout the AT&T brick and mortar stores on October 4. The pre-order campaign for the two devices has been going for a while now, but it concludes today with actual Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear shipments starting tomorrow. It appears that AT&T will need three days to finish handling the pre-orders before it's ready to start selling the Samsung duo.
The Galaxy Note 3 phablet costs $299.99 with a two-year AT&T contract, or $35 per month with the AT&T's Next program.

NEC Portable DNA Analyzer aims for 30 minute identification window

[CEATEC 2013] How many of you out there want to be forensic scientists after watching TV series such as CSI (Crime Scene Investigation). Isn't it just wonderful that an insanely difficult case can be cracked in an hour on TV with commercials thrown into the mix, while in the real world, there are plenty of unsolved cases, or at least cases where the leads have turned so cold. Perhaps if the local law enforcement agency had a portable DNA analyzer from NEC, things might have turned out differently. Today, we took a closer look at one of NEC's more interesting presentations at the CEATEC 2013 showfloor – an NEC portable DNA analyzer.

Ford's Mulally now said to be in lead for Microsoft CEO job

There have been rumors that Ford CEO Alan Mulally could assume the top job over at Microsoft, whose CEO, Steve Ballmer, will retire within the year. Mulally hasn't come out and said that he's considering moving to Microsoft after (or before) his contract with Ford through 2014 ends, but sources in the know say he's the front-runner to become the tech giant's CEO and has opened up to the idea more in recent weeks, AllThingsD reports. Mulally is no stranger to Washington, where Microsoft is located, having worked in the state for Seattle-based Boeing Commercial Airplanes as CEO years ago.

Nissan's current Rogue renamed Rogue Select, will live alongside next gen

Despite the fact that an all-new generation of its Rogue crossover goes on sale in November, Nissan will continue to sell the current model alongside its replacement. The existing C-platform-based Rogue, which will be renamed Rogue Select, will start at less than $20,000 when it goes on sale in January 2014. At present, a base 2013 Rogue S prices out slightly higher, from $20,310, but we wouldn't be surprised to see the 2014 Rogue Select come to market with more standard equipment and simplified trim options. It will continue to be built in Kyushu, Japan.

iPhone 5s In-Store Pick Up Reportedly Resuming Next Week

Apple didn't offer a pre-order program for the iPhone 5s this year, presumably due to supply constraints. However after the new smartphone was launched, the company did allow customers to order a new iPhone 5s through its online store or the Apple Store app and then pick up that unit a day later at an Apple Retail Store. The ability to do this was taken away just after one day, though according to 9to5Mac, Apple may resume iPhone 5s in-store pickup service next week. Apple hasn't commented on this report, so it can not be said for sure if iPhone 5s in-store pickup will definitely be resumed next week.

Land Rover 'vastly underestimated' new model demand, in supply crunch

Ever seen a toddler that just discovered they joys of sprinting. Yes. Then you'll know the next thing they discover is their natural speed limit, when their legs can't move as quickly as their mind demands. The end result is scrapped knees and many tears. The same thing is kind of happening with Land Rover right now, albeit in slow motion.

On the back of the finest lineup since Maurice Wilks put pencil to paper in 1947, Land Rover is moving serious metal. To go back to our toddler analogy, the brand is just getting to the point where it's realized that it's asking its legs to go too quickly.

According to the crew at Motor Trend, we should think of the video above "as an addendum to Best Driver's Car," a test the magazine put together that elevated the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S above all others in the category of driving joy. It seems the brand-new 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray wasn't able to take part in the magazine's official test, and neither was the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. And so Motor Trend did the only logical thing: It procured both the 'Vette and Prancing Horse as soon as it could, and put them both on track with the Driver's Car-winning 911.

We think it's safe to say hashtags has taken over pretty much all of social networking as any network worth its salt supports hashtags, with Facebook even getting in on the hashtag love. But if you read someone's update who uses a hashtag out loud, the concept of hashtags seems a little silly, especially if you're the kind of person to use hashtags in real world conversations. The name Bluebird may be synonymous with speed, made as it were by the land speed record car that bore the name the better part of a century ago. But speed doesn't always come without its setbacks. In July we reported on plans to release a pair of high-performance electric vehicles to revive the Bluebird name: the DC50 sportscar and the GTL formula racer. They were set to bow later this month in England, but now, through no fault of its own, the Bluebird initiative has been pushed off.

That's because, while the cars themselves may or may not be ready to unveil, the event at which they were to be showcased has been postponed.

Why your gas tank filler is where it is

Why your gas tank filler is where it is

For the Autoblog team, reviewing new cars each week comes with one particular first-world problem challenge - where the heck is the gas tank. Ask any of our editors, and they're likely to have pulled up to a pump, only to find that the tank was on the other side, leading to a trail of curses and grumbling. Why aren't gas tanks all on the same side. Jim Hall from 2953 Analytics has an answer, in the latest AutoLine Design Handbook. Like many things with the cars we drive today, the position of a fuel tank is something that's evolved from the very birth of automobiles, with regional fluctuations having a heavy influence on the overall layout.

This really was a matter of when, rather than if. Volkswagen will apparently be the first manufacturer to phase out naturally aspirated engines in favor of turbocharging its full slate. VW is kind of responsible for ushering in this push towards small-displacement, turbocharged engines that's taken the industry by storm. When it dropped its direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbo in the 2005 GTI it demonstrated that strapping an iron long to an engine can enhance the powertrain as a whole.

Sony Says PS Vita TV To Launch In Asia This January 2014

Sony Says PS Vita TV To Launch In Asia This January 2014

Earlier this month, Sony did announce the PS Vita TV which certainly took a number of people by surprise, and that announcement was accompanied by yet another high profile mention – that the Sony PS4 will arrive in Japan, Sony's home country, a good three months after the PS4 experiences a launch in the US sometime in the middle of November this year. That is certainly a bummer when it comes to fans of Sony who live in Japan, as this compact device known as the PS Vita TV will deliver a kind of functionality that is somewhat Vita-like in nature, albeit with a DualShock 3 controller as well as TV output.

Sony Working On Xperia Z2 For CES 2014? [Rumor]

Sony Working On Xperia Z2 For CES 2014? [Rumor]

Just a couple of weeks ago at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Sony took the wraps off the Xperia Z1. The device was essentially an upgraded version of the Xperia Z1, although one of the key features of the phone would be its 20MP camera and lens which would allow it to compete against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Nokia Lumia 1020. Interestingly enough it seems that thanks to a leaked image, it has been suggested that Sony could already be working on the Sony Xperia Z2 handset, and according to the leaker, the Xperia Z2 could even make its debut at CES 2014 which is odd given that the handset was only just revealed.

Toyota has had number of chiefs over its 76-year history, but none ever served as long as Eiji Toyoda. The younger cousin of the company's founder served as president of the automaker from 1967 to 1982 and as chairman of the Toyota Motor Corporation for another ten years following the unification of the manufacturing and sales divisions.

Juan Pablo Montoya leaves NASCAR for IndyCars with Penske

There are many drivers that have distinguished themselves in one form of motorsport or another, but only a handful that have won races in as many different series as Juan Pablo Montoya. After taking the International Formula 3000 championship, the Colombian driver switched to American open wheels and won the CART title in his first year and the Indy 500 the year after. He wasted no time in moving up to Formula One, winning his first of seven career grands prix in his rookie year - including the Monaco Grand Prix - and even contending for the world title two years running with Williams.
