We're still not sure what inspired Dish Network to choose a kangaroo theme for its new multiroom DVR setup - going as far as bringing out a live baby 'roo during its CES 2012 unveiling - but if there's room in your home and heart for the Hopper (XiP813) and Joey (XiP110) boxes, they're available now. As we saw in our hands-on in January, they have a UI similar to the previous 922 boxes, with a few new screens added for new features and icon-based tile navigation.

  1. I’m happy that the Hopper is finally here! I know many people didn’t like the Hopper mascot, but I like it a lot. It makes it that much more memorable. I’ve been playing with a tester Hopper that we have here at DISH where I work, and I’m excited about getting one of my own. I am a neat freak, so I’d like for the area around my TV to be clean and clear of boxes. That is where I think the Hopper fits perfectly. The Hopper and Joey are small boxes that can be hidden away easily, making for a receiver-less look. I was telling my cousin about it, and he sounded interested. I’m sure he will be happy to know that he can get a free Hopper by getting DISH.
