Google launches Hotel Finder, just in time after watching 'No Strings Attached'

The mighty search engine giant has just launched Hotel Finder, a service that lets you find a place to lay your weary head in these great fifty states. At first glance, it's little more than a specific use case for Google Maps — just type in a city or US zip code to get a map with the usual spreads of pinpoints. Though Google won't be the middleman booking your hotel reservation, you can use the tool to fine-tune your search, drawing circles on the map to scour multiple neighbourhoods.

Gingerbread officially released for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

After the false reports of Gingerbread arriving on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 a couple of days ago, it looks like rumors of the Friday release date have turned out to be true. Sony Ericsson has officially announced on its blog that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Xperia X10 is finally here. The update won't be an OTA (over the air) update and has to be installed with a computer running SE's PC companion software. Sony Ericsson has mentioned that the update will be rolling out to non-customized handsets first, and then to customized X10s next but even then, not all customized phones will be getting the update.

Cheap Alcatel One Touch 602 England Rugby to bring its touchscreen to O2 in August

In the UK, O2 is prepping yet another handset to throw into the cheap phone race. The Alcatel One Touch 602 England Rugby comes with a touchscreen, as well as (you guessed it!) a rugby theme centered around the England team. The OT 602 Rugby's touchscreen is incredibly small though at just 2.4 inches diagonally, and it has a resolution of 240×320. The phone is powered by a 102 (!) MHz processor, which isn't a lot even for a featurephone in this day and age. It also has a 2 MP camera, 4 MB of internal memory expandable via microSD cards, microUSB charging, and an 850 mAh battery.

The OT 602 comes without 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity.

Apple is now officially the world's number one smartphone manufacturer

It is official – Apple is the leading smartphone vendor in the world with 18.5% market share which was followed closely by Samsung who has 17.5% and with Nokia slipping into third place with 15%. While we're not trying to spark Apple vs Android debates, we have to give credit when it is due. It certainly is impressive given that it only took Apple four years to rise to the top, not to mention they faced stiff rivalry from Samsung and other Android manufacturers.

The success of mobile gaming detailed in an infographic

The success of mobile gaming detailed in an infographic

Who would've thought that mobile gaming was going to be a force to contend with. Initially it was thought of only as a casual pastime - something for people to enjoy while they waited for a train or sat in a bus towards their destination. It wasn't seen as something that would overtake dedicated gaming consoles. But now, many years later, we have phones as powerful as laptops that are capable of running fantastic looking games that went beyond social/casual gaming, with big studios behind the wheel.

Lighter, cheaper iPhone 4 prototype leaked?

There has been plenty of iPhone 5 rumors floating about. Some have said that it will simply be a refresh of the iPhone 4, while some claim that there will be two variants released – one being the next-generation iPhone while the other will be a budget-friendly version, aimed at developing countries. As it turns out, there have apparently been photo leaks (as pictured above) of what is claimed to be the prototype device of a cheaper and lighter iPhone 4, aimed at replacing the iPhone 3GS as Apple's entry level iPhone when the next-generation iPhone is released.

Olympus 810UZ Puts the ‘Super' in ‘Super-Zoom'

Olympus 810UZ Puts the ‘Super' in ‘Super-Zoom'

The lens on Olympus new compact sports a ridiculous 24-864mm range. Olympus' new compact camera, the SP-810UZ, has one genuinely jaw-dropping feature — a 36x zoom. If that number doesn't mean much to you, try it this way: The 35mm-equivalent focal length range is 24-864mm. Pretty sick, right? As if that wasn't enough, there's a 4x digital zoom laid on top,

The giant lens on the front of an otherwise small body leaves no doubt as to the purpose of the camera, and the rest of the somewhat pedestrian specs reflect this. The three-inch screen features a pathetic 230,000 dots, and the ISO limps up to a maximum of 3200.

HTC's CFO Winston Yung appears ready to make a deal with market rival and patent nemesis Apple. The Taiwanese company has had some rather harsh words for the Cupertino crew, and it hasn't seemed any more conciliatory after getting slapped by the ITC. That may be starting to change, as Yung told Bloomberg, “we [Apple and HTC] have to sit down and figure it out.” He went on to say that the house that Sense built was open to discussions with Jobs and co. but did not venture to guess what a final agreement might look like.

Odd news this is, but well, it looks like Motorola might be prepping to give the Nike+ SportWatch a run for its money. An intrepid tipster sent along a screenshot from a recent survey showing off what looks like a tricked out nano watch. Described as an “all-in-one fitness and music personal fitness device” (redundant much?) that packs a GPS for “accurate performance tracking,” the as of yet unnamed gadget also sports a “smart music player” that compiles a list of songs based on the tunes that help you sweat your best.

Porsche Design P'6520 Compass Watch

When you hear the name Porsche, what comes to mind instantly is not just a car, but a stylish designed work of art at that. But Porsche has since spread out into designing more than just cars. They are also into designing other things like watches. May be that is why its new Porsche Design P'6520 Compass Watch becomes quite a looker in itself.
The new Porsche Design P'6520 Compass Watch is not just a precision watch that tells time. It also has a built-in mechanical compass underneath to provide the wearer with directions. But it is not much these features that really matter- it is all about the design.

After missing its initial Q2 deadline, and after we saw a flyer for it back in May (which gave us false hope that its rollout would be imminent), the Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the T-Mobile G2 will finally start rolling out today. Almost eight months after Gingerbread was first unveiled, owners of the T-Mobile G2 will be able to take advantage of Google's newest mobile operating system. The update will come over-the-air (OTA), meaning that you'll receive a notification on your phone that the update is available. Then you'll be able to choose to download and install it.

Amazon.com, the little online bookseller that has morphed into the Walmart of the Web, launched their MP3 store almost 4 years ago at 2M songs and hasn't looked back since. Their success even saw Apple following their lead, adding high-quality DRM-free tracks to the iTunes store well after Amazon debuted them. While patents aren't a sign of things to come (most of the time, companies file for patent applications just to protect ideas that may or may not be used in the future); a recently discovered Sony patent shows a new direction it might be taking with its gaming consoles. And a weird one it is. The patent, filed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe back in 2008 was recently published, and it shows an interesting looking doll that resembles some sort of teddy bear with a bit of Troll doll hair. The toy is supposed to be made up of a storage medium reader, a media content player, a wireless receiver and a processor.

Yesterday when a render of an unknown Samsung handset with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard surfaced, we raised the question as to whether or not it could be AT&T's variant of the Galaxy S II. Turns out, that is exactly what the device will be. Images of the handset have surfaced clearly showing the SGH-I927 model number associated with the Galaxy S II. This time around it appears as though Samsung has managed to slim up the handset considerably compared to last year's Epic 4G on Sprint (is it also safe to assume Sprint won't receive a keyboard-laden version of the Galaxy series this time?).

Fujitsu's new tech will automatically deliver and run apps at scheduled time and place

Fujitsu has announced the development of a platform technology for mobile devices users that automatically performs downloading, running, and erasing of applications and data, in sequence, required at a particular time and place. Conventionally, users or IT departments have had to setup and install applications and data directly onto information devices before they could be used. This, however, means time-consuming preparation that has become an issue.
