Twitter sells old tweets to businesses

Twitter sells old tweets to businesses

Twitter might be in a wee bit of trouble, as it was discovered that the micro blogging company has made some money off its old tweets of users through the sales of those to businesses. Around 7 million people in Britain rely on Twitter to post short messages to their 'followers', and most users believe that their tweets remain unavailable to those who are not in the same network as them after a week, because those tweets can no longer be searched for.

Liquipel makes your existing phone waterproof for $59

Liquipel makes your existing phone waterproof for $59

One of the coolest things being showcased at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is definitely Liquipel. In short, Liquipel makes your phone (or iPod shuffle) waterproof. The tech can be contracted by phone makers to deploy on a massive scale, but at the same time it's also a consumer service. It is, in fact, the only waterproofing tech available direct to consumers.
The magic happens thanks to nanotechnology that bonds a waterproof coating to the surface (and innards) of your device – at the molecular level. The process only takes around 30 minutes, and it's going to last forever, Liquipel reps have told me.

TI reveals more OMAP 5 details at MWC 2012

All these new quad-core smartphones announcements had us all puzzled. How good are they, and what makes each of the different from each other. We have the Nvidia Tegra 3, the TI OMAP 5, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 having a three-way fight over at MWC 2012, so TI has stepped forward to explain more about their latest and greatest, the OMAP 5. We've known about its dual Cortex-A15 and Cortex-M4 architecture since this time last year, but we didn't know that those M4 cores are there to handle real-time processing of multimedia — like video encoding and decoding — which TI claims can provide up to ten percent power savings.

Motorola offering up to $200 for switching to one of their business-ready phones

It looks like Motorola is running a promotion to get more business users up and going with one of their latest Android phones. They're offering up to $200 to those who trade their phones in toward devices like the DROID RAZR MAXX, the DROID 4, the PHOTON 4G and more. Don't expect to net much if you have an old feature phone (some will only give you the option of recycling the device). Conversely, a device as good and as recent as a Galaxy S II will get you close to that $200 mark.

How to stop Google ads from tracking you on the web

. It was recently revealed that Google and a number of advertisers had found a way to bypass some privacy features in modern web browsers, allowing them to forgo third-party cookie policies and serve targeted ads regardless of a user's privacy settings. The report caused a stir among privacy advocates and consumers alike, and it prompted Google and other companies to agree to honor browsers' do-not-track policy by the end of the year. Some users may not want to wait up to nine months to know they're not being tracked, however, and Google has a solution for privacy-conscious web users who don't want to be followed.

Remember Audience. Sure you do. The outfit was behind the iPhone 4's noise-canceling wizardry that would be later built directly into the 4S' A5 heart. Now, the company has announced its earSmart eS110 advanced voice processor for feature phones. Touting "the same voice quality" as those more expensive phones that we all covet, the single microphone tech will suppress unwanted noise like cars passing by or that loud guy next to you at a bar. The eS110 offers crisp calls for both handset and speakerphone uses thanks to processors designed around how humans filter the sounds that we hear.

Permission loophole gives developers access to iOS photo library and location history

. Earlier this month it was revealed that the popular social networking app Path was uploading entire iPhone address books to the company's servers without first gaining permission. The data uploaded included full names, phone numbers and email addresses. Path quickly confirmed the report and issued an update to allow users to opt-in or out. The New York Times reported on Tuesday that a user's address book isn't the only information vulnerable on iOS devices, however. The publications claims photos can also be accessed by third-party app developers.

Translogic gets inside look at Rinspeed's concept shop

Another week brings another action-packed episode of Translogic. Our sister site continues its tour of Europe with a trip to Switzerland's Rinspeed. If there's a car builder that more resembles a toy company for adults, we can't imagine it. Host Bradley Hasemeyer got a full demonstration of several remarkable vehicles during his visit. The sQuba submarine car is straight out of James Bond, though it's based on a more modern Lotus than the famous Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me. The similarly amphibious Splash can operate as either a car, boat or hovercraft.

2012 Fisker Karma (video)

A Genuinely Good Idea That's Compromised By Design. Fisker is a company driven by design. I can't tell you how often I heard that line from the company's namesake, its PR people and engineers during my brief trip to Los Angeles to drive the production version of the 2012 Fisker Karma. And it's something that bears repeating.

So is "production version," because the Karma we drove this time last year was – at best – a prototype.

Fisker's people are willing to admit that the initial launch event was an effort to assuage fears – from customers, investors and the Department of Energy – that the Karma isn't vaporware.

NEC Medias series makes the trip to MWC, we go eyes-on

While NEC had already unveiled some of its plans for 2012, a phone with a pair of 4.3-inch screens is bound to draw in even the most jaded MWC attendee. Alas, these are still empty prototypes - the seed for whatever set of colors and complicated numerical naming conventions that Japanese carriers will place on the final models. The Medias W closes like a book - or perhaps a certain Sony tablet - and even over-extends beyond the hinge. No glimmer of technical detail on those screens, but we're promised the "latest OS" and from the sticker screen, that appears to be a lightly-skinned version of Ice Cream Sandwich.

A top fuel dragster makes impressive use of a 500-cubic-inch engine block machined from a solid chunk of aluminum. That 10,000-horsepower engine propels a 2,300-pound car from the starting tree to 100 mph in less than a second. And it needs a lot of fuel to do it. Some visitors to the NHRA Museum caught a dragster fuel pump in action. The red Lego-like contraption at the lower left is a Waterman Super Bertha fuel pump, set up to deliver more than eight gallons per minute at wide-open throttle to each of the eight cylinders.

The quad-cores have arrived and the first out of the blocks is LG's sequel to its dual-core Optimus 2X. The Korean phone maker has apparently recruited its "best engineers "on this wafer-thin slab of power and it shows; the phone is light and slim. It's taken a detour from the Prada Phone stylings we've seen on the Optimus Vu and L-series, but looks noticeably more mature than last year's efforts and Android's Ice Cream Sandwich is in attendance - with some tweaks. Our video hands-on and impressions are waiting after the break.

We've seen plenty of Back to the Future DeLorean DMC-12 replicas pass through the halls of the internet. In that time, we've always assumed the original movie car was tucked away safely in a museum somewhere. As it turns out, that wasn't the case. Of all the vehicles created for the three films, the most detailed hero car, otherwise known as the A Car, was left on display outside.

Finally Focusing On The FWD Luxury Game. Luxury used to be so simple in this country. Life was demarcated by a series of vehicular gradations from Chevrolet to Oldsmobile, Oldsmobile to Buick and finally, when one had clambered up every last rung of the socioeconomic ladder, Buick to Cadillac. But that was generations ago, a time before German automakers like BMW and Mercedes-Benz quietly brushed aside makes like Lincoln and Cadillac to establish themselves as the pinnacle of luxury.
