Kobo, maker of the inexpensive but not-so-popular Kobo e-book reader, has been acquired by Japanese e-commerce company Ratuken for a reported amount of $315 million. The acquisition comes after the Toronto-based Kobo has been unveiling devices and apps to make it a household name. The company announced a touchscreen e-reader back in May. Four months later, it unveiled a new mobile app that lets you see fellow users who are reading the same book titles as you. It also unveiled a feature called Kobo Pulse that integrates social activity to the page level.
Ratuken is one of Japan's largest e-commerce companies with over 70 million users.
