Microchip monitors cancer growth

Microchip monitors cancer growth

Boffins over at Germany have come up with a new microchip sensor which is said to be able to monitor the growth of a tumor when implanted close to one. How does this microchip do what it has been touted to. Simple – it will be able to track oxygen levels in nearby tissue, capable of detecting whether a tumour is expanding or not. All results will be transmitted wirelessly over to the patient's doctor, which hopefully will result in fewer trips to the hospitals for scans.

AT&T Responds to Department of Justice Complaint

AT&T Responds to Department of Justice Complaint

AT&T’s back seems to be up against the ropes here. They’ve responded to news earlier today that the Department of Justice would seek to block the proposed merger of AT&T and T-Mobile, citing anti-trust and anti-competition concerns as reasons why AT&T should not be allowed to gobble up T-Mobile. "We are surprised and disappointed by today’s action, particularly since we have met repeatedly with the Department of Justice and there was no indication from the DOJ that this action was being contemplated.
We plan to ask for an expedited hearing so the enormous benefits of this merger can be fully reviewed.

Honda teases next-gen Euro Civic

Honda teases next-gen Euro Civic

While we've been, um, enjoying the latest take on the Honda Civic for a few good months now, our cousins across the pond have yet to be able to sink their teeth into the new European version of the Japanese compact. That's all about to change as Honda prepares to unveil the 2012 Euro Civic at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The Japanese automaker has been so kind as to slide the web a little teaser ahead of the vehicle's debut complete with a photo of the hatchback's rear and a few scant details. The shot shows a new integrated spoiler and third brake light that Honda says helps manage the vehicle's aerodynamics at speed.

LG Univa E510 with Android Gingerbread caught in the wild

LG Univa E510 with Android Gingerbread caught in the wild

One of LG's unannounced Android smartphones – the Univa E510, of which we've first heard back in July – has been showcased by the South Korean company at a Qualcomm event in India just recently. The real Univa looks better than I expected (the previously seen mock-up wasn't exactly attractive). The handset runs Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, and features a 3.5 inch HVGA display, Wi-Fi, DLNA, 5MP camera, and an 800MHz processor.
According to the Bluetooth SIG, the Univa E510 will also be known as LG E510F and E510G. Unfortunately, we still don't know when exactly LG will launch the handset.

Leaked slide shows Nokia 703 Windows Phone 7 handset

So, is this finally it - Nokia's first Windows Phone 7 handset. Could be - it's allegedly from a presentation for a carrier and shows a device very much like the Sea Ray (it showed up on video too). It's called Nokia 703. The slide even lists some specs, which are unfortunately unreadable. Well, almost unreadable - you can clearly make out the categories and if you stare at it long enough, you start seeing even the fine print.

Take this with a pinch, or better yet a handful of salt, but we think it says "LCD 480x800 pixels 3.7 inches" next to the "DISPLAY" label. And that looks an awful lot like "5MP" and "720p@30fps" next to the camera.

Specs for New 4.7-inch HTC Runnymede Revealed – How Big Is Too Big?

If you thought HTC was being a bit “overly ambitious” with the 4.5-inch HTC Holiday (Raider) you ain’t seen nothing yet. Looks like HTC is working on a monster device they’re calling the Runnymede. Apparently, this device showed up like so many devices do, in some EXIF data on a photo site but that didn’t provide any more info than a name. Well, now they boys at Pocketnow have gotten the low down on a more complete list of specs and exactly what to expect from the HTC Runnymede.

Woman purchases dirt cheap iPad, finds out it is wooden

Scam artists have been around for the longest time in human history, and it does not look as though this particularly cunning nature of humans is going to be bred out anytime soon. A 22-year old lady from South Carolina would probably learn a lesson she would never forget this week after she forked out $180 for an “iPad” that was sold by a man with a gold tooth, with his car trunk as the storage space of choice for his wares. Said lady was making her way out of a McDonald's restaurant in Spartansburg, South Carolina, when she crossed paths with a couple of gentlemen who touted new iPads from the back of white Chevy Impala.

Firefox for Honeycomb UI shown off, inching closer to a tablet near you

The Mozilla team has been quietly toiling to bring Firefox to a mid-sized screen near you. It's already a perpetual favorite on the desktop and has made a bit of a splash on Android phones, now the group has Honeycomb tablets squarely in its crosshairs. It's still very much in the early stages of development but a few UI decisions have been made, including the choice to adhere pretty strictly to Android 3.0's minimalist appearance. In landscape mode tabs will be represented as a persistent thumbnail bar on the left, but in portrait they'll revert to the top with a more familiar appearance.

Motorola Defy+ will be available in the UK in September

The Motorola Defy+ is, as its name clearly implies, the successor to the original Defy. It comes with improved hardware and software and aims to fill the exact same niche. Speaking of which, this is a rather unique offering in the Android space. Sure, there are also the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy Xcover and Sony Ericsson Xperia Active, so the space is crowding up a bit, but both of those devices are a bit lower-end than the Defy+. In fact, we're wondering why no manufacturer has put out a truly high-end (for this day and age) ruggedized Android smartphone.

Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi look to join LCD manufacturing forces

There have been rumors circulating that Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi were going to combine their LCD making efforts. Now, according to Yomiuri Shimbun, that plan seems to be moving forward. The deal doesn't cover big-screen manufacturing, only small and medium sizes that find their way into phones and tablets. The joint venture will command roughly 20-percent of the market according to TechCrunch when it finally becomes official, with a hefty investment from the semi-public Innovation Network Corporation of Japan, which will own a significant stake in the new company.

While this. isn't a problem for a lot of artists (just pay a visit to Deviant Art to have a look at all the fantastic images. done digitally), for some people, the feel of sketching on paper makes a big difference and they can't. seem to work on the surface of a graphic tablet. Verizon Wireless, AT&T and T-Mobile have made a $100 million investment in ISIS, a joint venture created by the three carriers to fuel the growth of mobile payments. Touchpad Tops Android Share in Advertising [Ad Agency]

Jumptap, a mobile advertising agency has released statistics which shows that the HP TouchPad apps have already gathered 8% of the tablet mobile advertising share, which is comparable to Android's 9.4%. This is a surprising number as Android tablets have been on sale for some time, while the HP Touchpad has been on the market for a mere couple of weeks. That said, the $99 has probably helped, but still, these numbers make us wonder…1/ How many Android tablets have been sold. It's hard to get an accurate number because few Android tablet makers brags about their sales, but there are at least 2 million of Samsung galaxy tab in the wild.
