Nokia Lumia 800 will be available at O2 UK on December 9

The Nokia Lumia 800 is supposed to be the Finnish company's Windows Phone Mango-powered knight in shining armor for this holiday season, at least in the (very) limited number of countries it's available in. The goal of selling a whole lot of units can only be achieved if the device is being carried by as many operators as possible. Which is why it came as a bit of a surprise that O2 UK hasn't been stocking the Lumia 800 since its launch a couple of weeks ago.

There's a new section on the left sidebar that lets you quickly access applications from LastFM, Rolling Stone, The Guardian and more. Rolling Stone and other publications will release playlists, some as frequently as each day, with bands the publications think Spotify users should take note of. The applications are seamless and are so tightly integrated with Spotify that they launch almost immediately.

It's official: Asus Transformer Prime out in the US on December 8 (Taiwan tomorrow, Europe in January)

After a lot of speculation, the world's first quad-core tablet is about to finally hit the streets. In fact the Android-powered Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime will do just that tomorrow, in the company's native Taiwan. But if you're in the US, fret not for it's coming your way too. Just like the latest bit of speculative info had us believe yesterday, the Transformer Prime will become available in the US on December 8, which is a week from tomorrow.

So you'll obviously have all the time in the world to get it as a holiday gift for someone. Unfortunately though, that won't be the case if you're in Europe.

It could happen sooner, of course; Qualcomm's CEO Paul Jacobs recently said that Windows 8 devices powered by his company's ARM-based Snapdragon processors would hit the market in 2012. The Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered devices may only be tablets at first, however, and DigiTimes said Tuesday the first ARM-based notebooks from ASUS and Lenovo will begin to hit the market in June of 2013.

So as far as the general public is concerned, our printers pretty much do one thing which is to print our documents, so it would never really occur to the layman that hackers could actually hack into our printers for malicious purposes, at least until now thanks to a group of researchers at Columbia University who discovered that a security flaw that affected printers. This flaw was discovered in HP's LaserJet printer series and could possibly be present in other brands as well. It seems that this flaw will allow hackers to steal personal information, destroy information and even cause physical harm and damage to those nearby.

Blu-ray video encryption cracked using $260 kit

When a master key for HDCP encryption surfaced last year, Intel hardly broke a sweat. It declared that nobody could use the key to unlock Blu-rays or other protected sources unless they got into the semiconductor business and "made a computer chip" of their own. Oh Mann, didn't they realize. That sort of language is like a red rag to a German post-grad, and now Ruhr University's Secure Hardware Group has produced the ultimate rebuttal: a custom board that uses a field programmable gate array (FPGA) board to sit between a Blu-ray player and TV and decode the passing traffic.

Things are surely now going well for HTC at the moment. First we saw that HTC lost the S3 patent leverage and then came the news that their Q4 revenue actually fell. Now we are hearing that patent firm IPCom, who had sued HTC back in 2009 and managed to get an injunction against them could end up banning the sales of HTC 3G devices in Germany. As it happens, HTC was found guilty of infringing on some of IPCom's patents on UMTS 3G technology, which is how IPCom managed to get an injunction against HTC in the German court. HTC tried to get the injunction suspended but the court declined to do so.

Emotional state recognition system help automated telephone services work better

Some folks over at Spain's Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and Universidad de Granada have come up with a new computer system that is capable of recognizing the emotional state of a person talking on a telephone. Now if you're wondering why anybody would want to do that, the system is touted to make such conversations with automated devices shorter and less stressful. The system analyzes the voice of the person speaking into the other line, and according to their emotional state it responds accordingly.
