Qualcomm VP: Apple A7 chip is a marketing gimmick

Qualcomm VP: Apple A7 chip is a marketing gimmick

One of the major features of the recently announced Apple iPhone 5s is the company's own A7 chip and its 64-bit nature. However, according to Qualcomm's senior vice president and head of marketing Anand Chandrasekher, the 64-bit architecture of the A7 chip is a "marketing gimmick.". "I think they are doing a marketing gimmick. ThereƂ's zero benefit a consumer gets from that," states Chandrasekher. He acknowledges that the 64-bit processor enables the use of more than 4GB of RAM, but this isn't relevant in the iPhone 5s' case.

As a result, consumers get "zero benefit" from the 64-bit A7 chip.

BMW raises pricing on many models

BMW raises pricing on many models

Buyers interested in a new BMW will start paying a bit more for their Ultimate Driving Machines, beginning yesterday. The Munich, Germany-based manufacturer has announced price hikes across nearly its entire range, covering model years 2013 and 2014, that will sting higher-end customers in particular. Price increases are enough to get any consumer riled up, but the incremental nature of BMW's increase makes it a bit easier to swallow. All 1 Series and remaining 3 Series Convertibles (including the M3 Convertible) will see a $300 increase in price.

iPad mini. With the Venue 11 Pro, Dell has a Surface Pro 2 competitor on its hands. The company says its 10.8-inch tablet has "the power of an Ultrabook, performance of a desktop, portability of a tablet" and given the number of accessories that will complement the device (see below), it might be able to back up that claim. Like Microsoft's "lappable" tablet, the Venue 11 Pro sports a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) IPS display and will be offered with Intel's Atom quad-core Bay Trail processors or a fourth-generation Haswell processor up to Core i5 - supporting up to 8GB RAM, 256GB of storage, WiDi and NFC.

Mercedes widens luxury sales gap on strong early CLA demand

Mercedes widens luxury sales gap on strong early CLA demand

Mercedes-Benz CLA sales have been booming, with the Stuttgart-based manufacturer moving 2,300 of the sleek four-doors in its first week on sale. That is astonishing. Mercedes moved nearly twice as many CLAs (which start at $29,900) in one week than Jaguar, a brand that is on a very solid roll, sold in all of September. Ignoring the price differences between the Jag line and the CLA, that is still wildly impressive.
Mercedes has been pushing the CLA in television ads, using a shortened version of its Super Bowl spot, which starred William Dafoe, Usher and Kate Upton.

No Growth in Social Media Use Over Last Two Years According to Oxford University Internet Survey to be Presented at NextGen13

Changing Agendas: shifting broadband futures  Professor William Dutton, Keynote Speaker at the upcoming NextGen13 Conference to be held at Wembley next month, has today released the results of an Oxford University report on Internet use in the UK. The report by the Oxford Internet Institute finds five percent more Brits are using the net but shows that the seemingly relentless growth in social media use has stalled.  According to the detailed survey, which will be presented in full at the NextGen13 conference, 78 percent of the UK population are now online –  an increase on the 73 percent in 2011.
